A MAN from Walkhampton will be taking part in the mammoth Flora London Marathon this April raising money for a charity close to his heart. Paul Waldron is running 26 miles for the annual charity fundraiser on Sunday, April 13 in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support — a charity which helped his father fight cancer for six months. Paul and his father had always wanted to take part in the challenge together, so last April Paul decided to make the commitment to actually run the race for the charity — and his father. 'My father bravely fought cancer for six months and Macmillan nurses were there to help us all the way,' said Paul. 'This marathon run is to say thank you to them but also something for me and my dad as we always wanted to run this race together and now will not be able to. 'Training is not quick and certainly not easy — 26 plus miles is not only a long way to run, it's a long time to keep your mind focussed and positive, especially when most of the long distance training is during the winter. 'What keeps me going is the fact that I am raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support, a charity close to my heart, as it was the Macmillan nurses who helped my family when my father was poorly. 'They always managed to bring a smile into our lives on even the darkest days.' Macmillan Cancer Support provides essential practical, medical, emotional and financial support to families.
