EVERSFIELD Manor at Bratton Clovelly has been commended in the Soil Association Organic Food Awards 2004.

Organic beef reared at the manor was positioned in the top seven beef producers in the country in a competition involving more than 1,000 entries.

Eversfield Manor Estate rears organic beef, lamb and pork, which is matured, hung and butchered in the traditional way.

Mark Bury, owner of the manor, said they were delighted to hear of the award, and explained the philosophy behind Eversfield Manor and its farming methods: ?The welfare of our animals, our methods of rearing, the development of the estate through the Countryside Stewardship Scheme and our relationship with our customers are all critical in producing the final product which has been commended in this way.?

All animals on the estate are free range and grass-fed and the farm uses no intensive production methods.

The Organic Food Awards Scheme is in its 18th year and is organised by the Soil Association. Martin Cottingham, the Soil Association?s marketing director, said this year?s winners had shown outstanding commitment to organic standards and to the quality of food that they produced.
