A TAVISTOCK man has been cleared of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Jamie Macalevey had been accused of contacting a friend, asking him to approach the victim of an alleged assault to ask her to withdraw her allegation.

But Alistair Verheijen, for the Crown Prosecution Service, told Plymouth Crown Court there was no evidence as to who the friend was or that the friend had contacted or attempted to contact the woman.

He said the CPS had decided to offer no evidence, since there was little prospect of a conviction.

Judge Paul Darlow found Macalevey, 25, of Sunshine Terrace, not guilty by direction.
