SUPERFIT athletes from West Devon Borough Council have raised more than £1,000 for two charities after taking part in the London Marathon.
The team has won high praise from former West Devon mayor Peter Hill for their mammoth efforts.
Sisters Wendy Cooper and Marion Playle, and Wendy?s husband, Alan, ran the event for Water Aid. Marion is the council?s housing services manager, Wendy is the scientific officer while Alan is a customer services officer with South West Water.
Pierre Morel, the council?s information, communication and technology strategy and client manager took part in last month?s event for Cancer Research UK.
Sponsorship money is still coming in but they expect to raise a total of more than £1,000.
Cllr Hill, who stood down last week as mayor of the borough, said: ?It?s a splendid effort for two richly deserving charities. Preparing for an event such as the marathon takes a great deal of commitment and to raise money as well is very community spirited.?
