TAVISTOCK Athletics Club had 14 members participating in the Flora London marathon 2005. Five of these runners were doing their first marathon and all five members produced good times. Nicole Heryet?s time of 3hrs 42mins and 20 seconds allows her automatic entry into next year?s race. Dotty Allan also undertaking her first marathon did a time of 4hrs 35mins and 40seconds. Veteran marathon runner Steve Groombridge was first Tavistock member home in an astounding 2hrs 45mins and 49 seconds. Next home was Chris Eastaugh in 3hrs 6mins and 14 seconds, Chris took over 8 mins off his previous marathon time. Unfortunately Fiona Dunn was tripped up just past the 10 mile mark and then struggled to regain her time as her injuries had to be checked before she was allowed to continue to run. Dunn tried to make up the time but unfortunately the injury and the time stoppage was too great despite running the last 5 miles strongly. Nevertheless she ran a respectable 3hrs 22mins and 1 second only being 3.30mins of her pb. Annette Roberts took more than two minutes off her time from last year and only narrowly missed getting under 4hrs by 25 seconds. Pete Bazeley had a good run and succeeded in achieving his goal of under 3hrs 30 as he came home in a great time of 3hrs 29 and 37seconds. Marion Playle ran really well knocking over 30 minutes off her time from last year. Marion achieved a great 4hrs35minutes and 40 seconds. Jeff Lea and Adrian Bower ran well both with superb times. Adrian recorded his first marathon time of 4hrs 1minute and 28second and Jeff ran in at 3hrs 59minutes and 14 seconds. The Tavistock athletes were pleased with their times and the results indicate how hard these athletes have tried in the training sessions at the club and in their own time. All deserve a well earned break, well at least a couple of days from running.
