THE annual meeting of Okehampton and District Agricultural Association was held on February 28 at Meldon Village Hall. Retiring president Christine Marsh was thanked by the committee for attending all the show meetings during her tenure and for presiding over another excellent show day. John Hockridge, Roger Alford and Mark Wooldridge were reappointed chairman and vice-chairmen respectively. Derek Webber was elected president for the coming year, with Peter Green accepting the position of president-elect. Humphrey Richards, of Lloyds TSB Bank, stood down as treasurer and was thanked by the chairman for his support of the show in the past. Nigel Pearce, agricultural manager at Lloyds TSB, Okehampton was appointed treasurer. The committee heard that the 101st Okehampton Show had been a great success. The crowds attending the show enjoyed an excellent day out and many favourable comments were made concerning the altered layout of the sheep area. Additional trade stands had been located in this part of the showground which meant more visitors to the goat and pig sections. The 102nd Okehampton Show will take place on Thursday, August 9.
