MEADOWLANDS Leisure Pool in Tavistock is to close from December 16 to January 14 for major refurbishment work.

The venue is benefitting from a £60,000 joint investment from Leisure Connection and West Devon Borough Council, which will see upgrades made to the building and swimming pool.

The closure is scheduled to minimise disruption to people using the pool in what is traditionally its quietest time of year. Schools and swimming clubs that use the pool have been informed of the closure.

The £60,000 investment will be spent on replacing the entire ceiling of the swimming pool hall and other upgrades to the pool, replacing the flooring in the swimming pool, upgrading the lighting, undertaking maintenance on the spa pool and other areas of the centre.

Phil Jones, West Devon contract manager for Leisure Connection said: 'We are delighted with the investment that is planned and look forward to the work starting in December.

'The work that is scheduled will greatly improve the pool and the swimming experience of our customers.'

Cllr Chris Jenkins, chair of the environmental and communities committee, added: 'Meadowlands is over 20 years old and this refurbishment is part of an ongoing programme of important facility improvements.

'This next piece of work can only be done when the pool is shut so I hope our residents will be patient.

'I look forward to Leisure Connection delivering an outstanding upgrade for our community.'

Meadowlands is managed by Leisure Connection on behalf of the borough council.
