Jewson South Western League

Penzance 0

Tavistock 1

THE Lambs fielded an unchanged side from the previous week to face the Magpies for the second week running.

The Lambs had to face a strong wind in the first half. In the opening minutes Penzance attacked but the ball was cut out by Darren Babb to prevent a shock lead. Payne then shot over from long range.

The Lambs took the lead after 15 minutes. Danny McTighe sent in a high cross to the far post for James Cole to get on the end of it and head the ball through a cluster of players beyond the reach of keeper Menear to put the ball just inside the upright.

The Lambs never looked in any real danger for the rest of the first half with few chances being created by both sides.

The second half started with the Lambs having to make a forced substitution with Dave Symons replacing Craig Hodge. The game could have been as good as over in the second minute had Cole's volley found the target from McTighe's cross but it went agonisingly wide of the post.

Penzance almost equalised on 50 minutes when Tom Fernandez headed against the bar and from the rebound came back straight to keeper Andy Meeds.

Tavistock again had chances to increase their lead as Mark Wall shot wide, Darren Halfyard put McTighe away but as he went around Annear the keeper just managed to get a foot to the ball to send it away from goal.

Penzance had their best spell midway through the half but were either caught offside or the ball was over hit for it to go through to Meeds.

Tavistock were forced to make another substitute with 15 minutes remaining as Parnowski had to hobble off and Ben Pinkham took over in defence.

Paul Mellor replaced McTighe with minutes remaining and the Lambs pinned back the Magpies in their own half to record their second double victory of the season.

Not the convincing victory it could have been had the Lmbs taken their chances but another welcome three points away from home.
