Jackson Vending Devon & Exeter Premier League

Seaton Town 0

Okehampton Argyle 1

THE top match in the league saw third-placed Seaton take on fifth-placed Okehampton.

With Okehampton playing into the wind in the first half it was always going to be difficult, but both sides had chances. Daniel Malcolm made a fine save, tipping a shot over the bar. Then Seaton?s keeper matched that save with one of his own from a Danny Maddax shot.

Seaton had a few more chances and only the legs of Malcolm kept the scoresheet level at half-time.

With the wind behind them in the second half Okehampton were able to push forward a little more but chances were limited.

Midway through the half Seaton counter-attacked and with only the goal to shoot at the Seaton striker put his shot wide. This spurred Okehampton on and with ten minutes to go Stuart Cann gathered the ball in midfield. Neil Agnew then took over, and a gap opened for him to shoot. His shot was fumbled by the keeper, and Steve Williams and Danny Maddax chased the loose ball. Williams got a foot in just ahead of the keeper and the ball fell to Maddax, who expertly placed his right-foot shot in off the far post.

The game was far from over and with five minutes to go a wayward back header let in Seaton. Malcolm was quickly off his line and saved the initial shot then spread himself to deny the striker a clear shot on goal - it was flashed high and wide.

In the closing minutes Seaton had a player sent off for head-butting Stuart Cann. This was the last real action of the game as Okehampton played the clock down.

This was a vital three points for Okehampton, having slipped up over the Christmas period and seeing games cancelled due to the weather.

With no match next weekend the next game is away to Topsham Town on February 1, kick-off 3pm. Players will be notified of departure time.
