EVERY year Plymouth based Carlton Television sponsors a three-round mhampionship series to find the best up and coming young kart racer in the South West; the series this year is called Westcountry Kartmaster 2000.
Not just anyone can enter Westcountry Kartmaster; selection is made by Carlton's sports editor Mark Tyler, and members of the Dunkeswell Kart Club.
Chosen to race for Devon this season in Ben Broom, a pupil at Lydford Primary school and Dunkeswell Novice Champion 1999.
Beside kart racing his hobbies include football and cricket, but of course his ambition is to reach formula one.
And ten years ago Jenson Button, now racing no 2 at Williams/BMW was racing in the same cadet class (60cc/55mph) at Dunkeswell as Ben.
Westcountry Kartmaster 2000 rounds will be held on the 100mph Dunkeswell track in East Devon (near Honiton) on June 25, July 30 and August 27.
