BERE Ferrer?s Parochial Church Council has been awarded a £5,000 Lottery grant to help refurbish and equip its village hall with facilities for the disabled. A new meeting room and toilet block are also planned. Although the grant represents a substantial contribution to the Bere Ferrers project, the total cost of the work is estimated to be around £130,000 and the group is still £30,000 short. However, the lottery fund was just one of a number of grants applied for to fund the project and Bere Ferrers clergyman the Rev Nick Law is optimistic that ? ?God willing?? work will be underway by August. The village is one of 265 community groups to benefit from a recent £1-million payout to the South West by the Awards for All scheme being administered by the Big Lottery Fund. Steve Barriball, senior awards officer for the scheme, said his team was ?keen to fund other projects which meet our regional priorities?. Groups eligible for the grant are listed as any that support people with ?health, disability or care requirements, black and minority ethnic communities, the elderly, the young and those in the region?s most disadvantaged areas.?
