HELPING those who have lost the use of their hands is the target for a determined former Royal Marine from Horrabridge.
Dominic Lovett, aged 25 and who lives in Fillace Park, is a tetraplegic, paralysed from the neck down following injuries sustained while training with the Marines in Norway in 2008.
However, in true Green Beret spirit, this has not stopped him in trying to help others with severe disabilities.
Dom is working with Professor Roland Burns of Advanced Research Controls Ltd of Plymouth, on a 'handroid' system to make his hands work.
Dominic said: 'The research from this new Handroid system could help a wide range of people who have lost the use of their hands, such as stroke victims.'
He is raising money for the Royal Marines Association Charity, which is backing Prof Burns work, and aided by Dom's neighbour Joseph Toland.
One of the fundraising events is a sale at Eldred Auction House on Belliver Industrial Estate, Roborough on Tuesday, April 23 at 11am.
At the sale, 60 first edition books, including James Bond classics by Ian Fleming, such as Doctor No and Goldfinger go under the hammer.
Other lots include signed editions from local author Beatrice Trace and a collection of Dinky toys — such as Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Noddy and Bond vehicles.
