TAKE a browse through the colour and smells of the Meavy Garden Society's summer show on Saturday, and place your votes for the winners. Visitors to the show in Meavy Parish Hall from 1pm, will undertake the difficult task of selecting the best exhibit in each of the 17 classes of flowers, plants and vegetables. Admission to the show is £1 and there is free parking behind the hall. Also on offer will be a raffle, refreshments and local plants. The visitors votes are collated to determine the winners in each class and into a points system to find the overall best collection of entries by one member. In remembrance of the Great War, class 15 is for a 'Container of Poppies'. A special prize, sponsored by the Royal Oak in Meavy, will be awarded to the best entry of 'Garden Flowers in a Tankard'. A good number of entries have already been received for hte children's class, which is to prepare a 'Postcard for a Gardner'. The show finishes at 4pm with the raffle draw and presentation of trophies by the guest of honour. Entries from non-members are welcome for a small charge, but as the trophies are perpetual and held for one year each time, they are awarded only to members.
