A CHARITY auction will take place in Tavistock next month to raise money for Help for Heroes.

The auction of pledges will take place at the Royal British Legion Club on September 17 and is being organised by Yvonne Rainer, of Tavistock.

Yvonne said: 'My son-in-law is in the Royal Marines and my son-in-law to be is in the Navy — I find it very upsetting, seeing what's going on in Afghanistan.

'My son-in-law came back with slight injuries and I think it just brings it home to you when you have that close connection.

'Because I can't stop what's going on, I just want to do all I can to help.'

Yvonne has collected more than 100 items or pledges which have been generously donated by shops and businesses in Tavistock and the surrounding area.

She said: 'The majority of places I contacted have donated something, which is fantastic, and Colin, at the Royal British Legion Club in Tavistock, has been absolutely brilliant about me holding the event there — he will be the auctioneer on the night.'

The top prize is a night's bed and breakfast in the four-poster executive suite at the Astor Hotel in Plymouth, but there are many other top pledges on offer.

Tickets for the event, to include a pasty and muffin supper, are £5. There will be entertainment during the event with music from Hollie Rainer, Dean Marriott and Dean Scott.

'All proceeds will go to Help for Heroes, as everything has been donated.'
