A PACKED programme of events to celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee year has been put together by South West Lakes Trust, the charity based near Roadford Lake.

The programme gets off to a flying start with an Easter Bunny hunt at Roadford on March 31.

The Jubilee week in June sees even more activities at the lake, with a sailing regatta, cycling events, and a performance by Hatherleigh Silver Band.

Events later in the year include appearances by other musicians and a children's fun day.

Highlight of the programme is the visit to Roadford by the highly-acclaimed London-based Garden Opera Company on July 6.

They will be performing the Barber of Seville, described as a knockabout comedy, staged with the lake as a backdrop.

Simon Watson of South West Lakes Trust said: 'We are really excited about this event, which is being held jointly with Broadwoodwidger Parish to raise funds for the new community hall.'

Tickets costing £18.50 are already on sale for the event, which will take place in a fully-seated marquee in the event of rain.
