FATHERS? Day in Tavistock will be extra special for West Devon families this year, as the new Tavistock Children?s Centre, managed by Barnardos, is being launched with a big bang in The Meadows on Sunday June 17. From 11am to 2pm the park will be buzzing with activities to keep pre school children and their siblings busy ? and parents too! Well known local party entertainer ?Emazadad? and fabulous storyteller ?Clive Pig? will be entertaining the children with their shows that will keep parents happy too. There will be family entertainment around the bandstand, face painting, bouncy castle and circus skills for the older children amongst the activities and information available to help make parenting young children a little less stressful. For the first 100 families registering, there is a free family swim later in the afternoon at Meadowlands Pool ? so remember to bring towels! As part of the ?Fathers? Day Fun in the Park? event being hosted by Tavistock Children?s Centre, there will be an opportunity for children and parents to join music sessions run by both Bizzie Lizzie and Hullabaloo. Using percussion instruments, dancing, songs, rhymes to bring fun and energy into learning new language, social and maths skills, Bizzie Lizzie aims to build up your child?s self-esteem and confidence with imaginative activities and new experiences. Hullabaloo Music sessions take their inspiration from well-known stories. Through topics children learn about the world around us in a fun and interactive way. At Hullabaloo the children get to experience and respond to all sorts of music, from classical and country to rock, pop, swing and jazz. Fun in the Park on Fathers? Day will also be the first time for families to see the new ?blow up marquee? which will house mask making, making animals with wet felt, face painting and much more. The event is being hosted by Barnardos South West with the kind permission of Tavistock Town Council, as the first of many events to promote the new Children?s Centre in Tavistock. In the coming months there will be lots of opportunity to be involved in shaping the services being planned, all to support parents with their families including children from birth to the age of five. The centre, which will be based at premises in Tavistock, is funded by the Home Office?s Surestart programme through the Devon Children?s Trust.
