CHILDREN from South Tawton Primary School can now combine exercise and fun with a new trim trail which offers a range of physical activities.
The wooden trail which runs around the edges of the playground, cost in the region of £7,000.
It was supported by the school's parent teacher association, which raised almost £6,000 by holding summer barbecues, monthly prize draws, a silent auction, and many other fundraising events. Okehampton Rotary Club also donated £500 towards the project.
The trim trail includes rope swings, a tyre swing, a jelly board that children can walk along, stepping stilts, raised at different heights, balancing beams and rope activities.
The new development provides high- energy challenges and helps develop co-ordination skills.
Headteacher Heather Poustie, said: 'We have been planning to install a trim trail for a few years and our dream was finally realised after the school PTA offered to donate money after a series of fantastic fundraising events.
'We are also grateful to the Okehampton Rotary Club and Waitrose who added to the pot so we could get everything the pupils had asked for.
'The children worked together to plan the layout and the final design was submitted by the school council at the end of last year.
'Our new trim trail provides fun and fitness for all levels of body strength, co-ordination and agility.'
