A WOMAN from Whitchurch is searching for the family of a young man who was killed in the First World War.
Every day Chris Talbot takes in a walk around the village and the churchyard, but recently she noticed the grave of 16-year-old R G Donaldson who was killed in action during the Great War on August 20, 1915.
‘I noticed that it is almost one hundred years since he died and I am trying to find out if there are any surviving relatives in Tavistock,’ said Chris.
After research, Chris found out that the young boy was called Reggie Donaldson and had been born in Whitchurch and that he later moved to St Austell with his mother and father George and Eliza Donaldson and lived on Elliott Road.
‘I want to find out more’, said Chris.
‘I want to find out if he has family and if they are going to be doing something to honour the day he died. I would like to see people there on the day commemorating the day and also commemorate that it is the centenary year of the First World War.’
