A NEW study of moorland waterways has been launched by the Dartmoor Trust ? and West Devon residents can do their bit to help it progress.
The trust, with the backing of Dartmoor National Park Authority, is making a study of leats on the moor.
It would like people living in moorland parishes or local history groups with any detailed knowledge or information about leats, either used or disused, to get in contact.
The Dartmoor Trust would also like to hear from people who are willing to undertake research in parish records or other sources, to track down old and forgotten leats.
The trust will provide simple forms and maps so basic details can be recorded ? relevant photographs can also be submitted.
Ultimately, the information will be stored digitally on the Dartmoor Trust archive, being run at the University of Exeter.
Anyone who would like to get involved with the leat project should contact The Dartmoor Trust, High Moorland Business Centre, Princetown PL20 6QF.
