Whitchurch 2nd XI v Galmpton
HAVING won the toss and electing to field, Whitchurch made a dreadful start to this match at Galmpton, the home side taking 49 off the first 7 overs.
Tamblin and Wiles then pegged the scoring back, but Galmpton had the platform from which Waters (39) and Butt could build a formidable total.
Waters fell to a sharp catch behind the wicket to Freedman off Tamblin and Gait followed shortly after, thanks to a one-handed slip catch from Rae.
However, runs continued to flow and things looked ominous with 12 overs remaining and Galmpton on 174 for 2. Alford?s second spell was more accurate as he took three quick wickets and also effected a sharp run out. Butt finally offered a return catch to Woodrow, as Galmpton posted a total of 220 for 7.
Whitchurch made good progress in reply, despite the early loss of Shorrock. Rawe (30) and Mitchell (19) added 50 for the second wicket. Heatley and Newton then played some fine shots, as Whitchurch maintained a healthy run rate of 6 an over.
They had put on 100 for the fourth wicket when both fell in the same over to Waters (3-31), first Newton for 60 and then Heatley for 22.
As the overs ran away, so did Whitchurch?s chances of winning the game and they closed on 201 for 7, thereby taking 10 points from the match.
Other results went against Whitchurch, so things at the top of the table are now close, with three teams covered by just four points with three matches remaining.
