TAMAR and Tavy Gig club held their annual meeting last week. Chairman Rob Mackintosh-Smith welcomed everyone and said how wonderful it was to see so many members present – both new and old.

Rowing captain Carolyn Dawe was able to report what a good season the club had last year with some superb results at the World Championships in the Isles of Scilly. Special mention was made of the junior section, which has grown in confidence and ability and has also attracted lots of new members.

Treasurer Ruth Walker was pleased with the state of club funds though more fund raising is always necessary in order to maintain the boats and equipment.

The proposed new home for the rowing and sailing clubs at Weir Quay was discussed with Bob Turner giving an interesting overview of the current situation and hopes for the future. This is a very exciting venture and will be great for the future of the gig club.

The chairman spoke about how well the club was doing as a whole and that it was great to see so many new members joining. He also mentioned how well the juniors have been doing and talked about the new junior training session at Tavistock College, which has been visited by the British Rowing Association who have identified some youngsters from this group as having special abilities.

The chairman also talked about the launch of 'The Belinda O'Flynn' last November, the new all weather training gig purchased with a generous grant awarded from the Belinda O'Flynn Trust which has meant that members have been able to row all winter while the other gigs have been undergoing essential maintenance.

All the officers of the club were thanked for all their hard work throughout the year which is essential to keep the club moving forward.

The chairman then formally stood down from the post and Tricia Stewart was voted as the new chairman with Peter Clarke as vice chairman. Everyone welcomed them to their new posts and wished them luck.
