A NEW initiative between West Devon Borough Council and Devon Pound is about to start. Over the next six months, leaflets containing information on free financial advice and assistance will be sent out with council tax reminders and housing benefit overpayment letters. Residents can access the free service by contacting freephone number 0800 3169296 and speaking to an adviser, who can discuss individual needs and arrange for a home visit. Assistance could involve ensuring benefits entitlements are claimed, offering a small loan, helping with opening a bank account or savings scheme, or just offering guidance on how to increase income or reduce bills.
