IF you happen to be in the Schlewig Holstein region of Germany then look out for 'Callingtonstrasse' among the street signs.
The East Cornwall town is twinned with Barsbuttel, near Hamburg, and a delegation from the Callington and District Twinning Association accepted an invitation from their German counterparts to visit them.
Around 40 people from Callington went to Germany, including the Callington Community Gospel Singers, to coincide with the town's Sommerfest in August.
They were delighted when their German hosts asked Callington's Portreeve Denise Winfindale to join the Mayor of Barsbuttel, to unveiled their latest street sign 'Callingtonstrasse' — in honour of their Cornish twin town.
Sue Lumley, chairman of the Callington and District Twinning Association, said it was a wonderful weekend and they were joined by their French friends from Guipavas.
Callington, Barsbuttel and Guipavas enjoy a 'triangle' of twinning associations. Callington has been 'twinned' with Guipavas since 1982 and Barsbuttel since 2004.
Sue said: 'Callingtonstrasse is part of a new building programme in Barsbuttel just off its main road where there will be a new housing, a retirement home and retail development — so it will be quite an important road when its completed. The street sign will certainly help put our town of Callington on the map!
'In May next year the twinning association from the French and German towns will be coming to Callington.
'Since it will also mark our tenth anniversary with Barsbuttel, we are hoping that, with the help of Callington Town Council, that perhaps we could reciprocate by naming a street after our German twin.'
Ties with their French and German counterparts continued with a concert on Saturday at Menheniot, when singers from the three 'twins,' including the Callington Singers, performed a concert.
