EARLY risers who love to hear nature at its finest will be interested in a dawn chorus walk at Abbeyfield Woods near Okehampton on Sunday. Organised by the Forestry Commission the walk will take place between 6am to 10am and those taking part will learn to identify birds by sight and sound in this beautiful mixed woodland setting. The event costs £10 for those aged 12 plus and will be followed by a full English or vegetarian breakfast. On Saturday, May 10, between 8am and 10.30am there is a bird walk at Clawmoor Reserve. Those interested should meet at the Cookworthy Forest Centre near Beaworthy. Rresident bird enthusiast Dave Powell will help you identify a variety of bird species by sight and sound, exploring a range of habitats.It is for those aged 12 plus and costs £5 for adults and £3 for children. The Magnificent Trees of Eggesford Forest is the theme of the third event this month. On Sunday, May 25, between 11am-4pm the event will be held at Eggesford Forest (meeting at Eggesford Garden Centre) Join the forester for a seven-mile walk around this glorious forest, learning about its history and management. Participants are asked to bring a picnic and the event, for those aged 12 plus costs £7 per person, including a cream tea. Booking is essential for all three events by calling 01392 834223.
