SUMMER hours at Tavistock Farmers' Market are being extended as part of celebrations to mark its tenth year.

The hours will be from 9am to 2pm from this month on the second and fourth April Saturdays until September — weather permitting.

The market started trading on Bedford Square in 2001 after the foot and mouth crisis.

It has grown over the years and now hosts a regular number of local producers utilising the second and fourth Saturday every month and recently also most fifth weekends.

It has grown in reputation and popularity over the years and attracts customers from all over the country to the town and further afield.

A mainstay of local support throughout the year, in more challenging financial times has helped the market to continue to thrive.

Its variety of produce and continued commitment from members of the community has kept the market going forward, said Maria Jones, the market manager.

She said: 'We look forward to seeing and welcoming our customers over the summer months and join us in the start of our tenth anniversary celebrations.

'It's a wonderful atmospheric market which complements the town and I hope it will continue with everyone's support for many years to come.'
