TWO members of Callington Lions' Club were honoured for their many years of service to the charity recently.

John and Brenda Wood were presented with long service medals by vice district governor Lesley Clarke — John for 35 years and Brenda for 15 years, totalling over 50 years of service between them.

Their constant involvement in helping to raise funds over the years has seen Callington Lions go from strength to strength. Their endeavours have also taken them to some of the international events in Australia and the USA.

As Brenda is the district centennial chairperson, she is helping to co-ordinate 100 years of service by Lions Clubs International being held in 2017.

Thanks to the hard work of members such as John and Brenda and the generosity of the people in and around the area, Callington Lions raises in excess of £15,000 a year.

This is used for aiding many local charities, groups and individuals such as Children's Hospice, mobility chairs, the scouts, fire service radios, Christmas boxes and hampers, wheelchair loans, spectacle collection, message in a bottle, soup kitchen and many more.

Some of the money raised also goes towards the £560-million pounds collected internationally, where grants are made to many global humanitarian com-munities such as the ebola campaign, blindness prevention, disaster relief, youth projects, special Olympics and diabetes screening.
