THE newly restored lodge at Endsleigh House estate at Milton Abbot has been shortlisted for an award run by the Royal Institute of British Architects. Endsleigh Lodge stands at the top of the drive to Endsleigh Cottage designed by Jeffry Wyatville for the Duke of Bedford in 1810. It has been reinstated by the Plymouth office of Pearn and Proctor and entered the restoration category of the Town and Country Design Awards which are backed by Plymouth builders Rok. The lodge is part of a self-contained group of 19th Century buildings which include a fuel store, wash-house with a copper and a house and yard for a pig. Unoccupied for a number of years, the condition of the buildings had deteriorated ? the refurbishment has maintained the uses of the varied buildings but upgraded them to modern standards. Owners of Endsleigh Olga and Alex Polizzi said they plan to use the lodge as part of their hotel complex.
