THE revival after 50 years of Lamerton Show on August 13 was an outstanding success with 442 exhibits being donated by 92 exhibitors from the village and surrounding parishes.
There were more than 60 classes, covering fruit, flowers, vegetables, produce and craft. Judges Johnny Mann and Val Bugden Cawsey said they had rarely seen such a high standard of exhibits and presentation.
There was strong competition throughout the fruit and vegetable classes with much rivalry between the allotment holders.
The many children's classes were well supported with some ingenious interpretations of the themes.
The photography classes attracted many entries, both from adults and children, with some stunning and amusing pictures.
The talent of the many local amateur craftsmen was evident in the art and craft classes, again with entries from both young and old.
A marquee was erected for visitors to sit and enjoy WI cream teas served by a busy team of WI ladies.
County councillor Debo Sellis opened the show and presented the many trophies which had been donated by local businesses and individuals. Cllr Sellis, who had supported the show through the council community fund, said that the event was another example of how Lamerton puts localism into action.
Lamerton WI president Angela Minshull expressed special thanks to her organising committee who gave her so much support during the last year of planning the show. She also thanked all those from the village who came to help in putting the show together and dismantling it afterwards.
Lamerton WI is determined to make this show the first of many more to come.
