TAVISTOCK Hospital received a generous donation from Tavistock Lions Club in appreciation of the care that was given to a Lions Club member after a fall.

During the town's carnival week, Frank Birch tripped over the kerb near the parish rooms in the town, hitting his head on the pavement and breaking his upper arm and joint.

After being treated at Derriford Hospital, he was transferred to Tavistock Hospital where he spent a couple of weeks recuperating.

The Lions Club and Frank were so impressed with the care that he received while at the hospital, they decided to make a donation of £1,000.

The Lions presented the cheque to matron of Tavistock Hospital Mary Barrett, who said the money will be used towards the refurbishment of the hospital day room.
