PLANS are underway for a marathon charity event involving dozens of pubs in the Tavistock area.

Last year, the Darts Marathon run by Tavistock Lions Club raised more than £2,000 for the Molly Owen Wheelchair Fund and Muscular Dystrophy.

Beneficiaries of the event this year, which will take place on June 7, will be the Green Wellie Fund and a number of local playgroups.

Ken Shield, of Tavistock Lions, said each club or pub taking part will be invited to enter a team of between six and eight players who obtain sponsorship — the marathon will then be played at each venue simultaneously.

Lions members will be at each pub recording the scores, the aim being to throw the highest score possible within the two one-hour periods of competition.

There will be a trophy for the highest score and another for the pub or club raising the most for charity.

Last year the Royal Standard won the competition with a score of 52,699 — the Drake Manor Inn raised the most money, a total of £341.

Any pub or club in the Tavistock area who would like to enter a team in the Lions Club Darts Marathon should contact Ken Shield on 01822 615451 or Kevin Turner on 01822 615638.
