A RECORD total of more than £7,600 was raised for Children's Hospice South West by the eighth annual Okehampton and District Lions Club Golf Day.

More than 220 golfers from as far afield as Middlesborough competed in good weather at Okehampton Golf Club on Friday, September 5.

Keen golfers of varying ability were out on the fairway all competing for a prize fund of more than £1,000.

The evening prize-giving was attended by children's hospice representative Alison Berridge, who kindly presented the prizes.

The winning team with a score of 92 points was Andrew Clarke, Kevin Cornwall, Colin Cornwall and John Tolley, who won a golfing break at the prestigious Celtic Manor Course, venue for the 2010 Ryder Cup.

Second prize of a day at St Mellion International Golf Club with buggies and meals included went to the team comprising John Mansell, Kevin Pedrick, Neil Palmer and Ian Chenery with 91 points.
