MORE than £285 was raised for the Guide Dogs for the Blind at a dog show held during the Lions family fun day in Tavistock recently.
The event was so successful that organisers from the guide dogs Tavistock Support Group are planning extra classes for next year's event.
More than 200 entered the show, with competitors coming from as far afield as Exeter and Helston.
Mr Madge, the judge from Maxworthy, near Launceston, commented on the high level and quality of entries in the breed classes.
Novelty classes at the show were judged by Sue Collins, wife of the Lions president, and Lions member Chris Grummitt.
The presentation to the first prize winners was made by the judges and Mr Bond with his guide dog Cider.
The winners were: Pedigree classes, silver service cup for any variety puppy, Mrs Trace (Tez); Guide Dogs for the Blind shield for best toy, Mr Hunt (Queenie);Fairway Furniture cup for any variety sporting, Mr Ord (JoJo); Radmores of Tavistock cup for any variety utility, Mrs Franks (Fugi); Lumburn Farmhouse Benitadgh cup for any variety working, Miss Pashley (Paddington); Guide Dogs for the Blind tankard for best any variety, Mr Burrows (Pippa); The Gas Centre prize for best veteran, Mrs May (Jemma); Worth Jewellers cup and voucher from Vaughan Hair Fashions, for best child handler over 12, Jessica Burgess (aged 13); Swincombe Cup and voucher from Alpha Pets for best child handler under 12, Hanan Clayman (aged 4); Worth Jewellers cup for best in show, Mr Ord (JoJo); Stubberlands Dairy shield for reserve best in show, Mr Burrows (Pippa).
