THE Lions Club of Tavistock has donated a wonderful £6,000 to its nominated charities following last year’s Trees of Light.

The three organisations ‚ CLIC Sargent, Parkinson’s UK and Marie Curie, each received £2,000 with a further amount to come once the Gift Aid rebate is received from HMRC.

Club president Paul German expressed his thanks to all those who had sponsored a light in memory of a departed loved one as well as Morris Bros (Tavistock) Ltd. which once again covered all of the administration costs, South West Lakes Trust which supplied the trees, the works staff at Tavistock Town Council for erecting the trees and the Tavistock Times Gazette for printing the sponsorship form and the list of sponsors.

The 2017 Trees of Light was the 19th time the fundraising initiative has taken place in Tavistock.

It has now raised over £95,000 for local charities. The trees on the front of Tavistock?Town Hall are decked in beautiful lights and people have the chance to sponsor a bulb in memory of departed loved ones.

2017 was the second year a new set of LED?lights designed to withstand the vagaries of the English weather were used on the trees.

Caroline Greep and Mark Hoar, representing Marie Curie and Parkinson’s UK respectively, thanked all involved for these great donations and Mark advised that £500 of the Parkinson’s UK donation would be going to support local projects.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the representative due to attend for CLIC?Sargent was unable to attend.
