SOUTH West Water and the Environment Agency are again looking to join forces on a key environmental improvement scheme at Hillbridge Weir near Peter Tavy, following a similar project in Tavistock. A public exhibition on the proposed scheme was held yesterday (Wednesday) at Mary Tavy power station. Similar to the project at Abbey Weir in Tavistock which has just been competed, it involves modernising the fish pass and building automatic screening devices at the hydro intake at Hillbridge Weir. This will mean smaller fish will no longer be able to escape into the leat system that serves the Mary Tavy and Morwellham hydro power stations. Under the proposal, fish migration would considerably improve, which will mean a big boost to the local fish population.
