CHILDREN in Year five at Whitchurch Primary School are working alongside students from Year 7 at Tavistock College, in a unique musical project.

The idea is based on collaboration and transition from primary to secondary school but also enables Whitchurch children to push their musical understanding beyond primary levels to a higher level, using Tavistock College resources.

Music teacher at Whitchurch Primary Karen Higginson is working alongside Joe Lambert, creative arts teacher at Tavistock College, to deliver the project.

The whole experience is a positive one and is much supported by both heads, transition officers and departmental leaders.

Both year groups are working on creating mood music to 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'. The idea of a 'Midsummer Night's Dream' stems from Year 5's literacy project in the autumn term.

The outcome will be a greater understanding of music technology which will benefit both year groups.
