FOR the 14th year running, Yelverton author Lilian Harry has become one of the most popular authors in British libraries. Each year the number of borrowings for each book in public libraries is calculated and a payment is made to the authors under the Public Lending Rights. No author can receive more than £6,600 however many times their books are borrowed, and out of 23,869 authors who registered in 2006 only 262 received the maximum amount. One of these was Lilian Harry, whose books were borrowed almost half a million times during 2006 — the most popular novels were 'A Farthing Will Do' and 'Three Little Ships'. Her new book 'A Stranger In Burracombe' is published today (Thursday).
