AN exciting new community play is to be performed in West Devon next year ? and the Lewtrenchard-based group producing the event is hoping residents from the area will come and join the fun! Like a Buoy will tell the story of the extraordinary life of the Rev Sabine Baring Gould. With more than 60 parts in the play, written by local author Ron Wawman, the production contains roles for everyone young and old, with music, singing and dancing. Directed by Anthony Richards of the Common Players, and with professional music and lighting directors, the play will be a rare opportunity for people to learn about stagecraft, acting and music. Red Spider Company would like everyone to get involved in the play, not just residents in the Lewtrenchard area. There will be opportunities for musicians, singers, backstage support, set construction, lighting, costume making, publicity and administration in addition to acting. The show gets on the road in September with a series of workshops. Once casting has been organised, the workshops will become rehearsals, starting around mid October. The community play has been supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, West Devon Borough Council and sponsors Premier Nutrition, von Essen Hotels and the Lewtrenchard Manor Hotel. It will be performed at the parish hall in Bratton Clovelly between March 28 and 31 next year. Anyone who would like to get involved in Like a Buoy should contact Susanne Clayton on 01822 612796 or e-mail [email protected]">[email protected] or Mary Rolfe on 01837 861510.
