Tavistock AFC 3

Liskeard Athletic 1

THE Lambs first home fixture for four weeks ended in disappointment when due to floodlight failure the game was called off by the referee, with the home team in a comfortable three goals to one lead.

The visitors took the lead in the fifth minute, when former Tavistock players Andy Bowker and Lee Coxon combined and Bowker's excellent cross was volleyed home be Coxon.

The long lay off was apparent and it took the first quarter of the match for the home team to get their passing game going.

Glyn Hobbs was a constant threat on the left flank and made a number of penetrating runs, causing the visitors defence endless problems. In the 24th minute the Lambs equalised, when Hobbs made another raid into the visitor's penalty area he was brought down by two Liskeard defenders. The penalty kick was coolly despatched low into the corner of the net by Will Stringer.

The Lambs performance improved as every minute passed, and they should have increased their lead, on several occasions. Only dogged defending, great goalkeeping by Brown, and some poor finishing kept the scores level.

Both Carter and Hobbs missed the target when well placed, and Will Stringer failed to test the keeper when he headed wide from eight yards.

The Lambs kept the pressure on the visitors and it was no surprise they took the lead in the 43rd minute. Liskeard's Rob Brown's poor goal kick only found Carter who collected the ball and slotted the ball pass the advancing goalkeeper.

Adam Carter increased the home sides lead on the stroke of half time when he ran on to a defence splitting pass from Blatchford and coolly slotted the ball past Brown.

With Lambs in total control they were left cursing their luck when the floodlights failed at half time, this surely robbed them of victory. This game will now have to be replayed later in the season.

* On Saturday the Lambs visit Clyst Rovers, kick-off 3pm. Tavistock AFC reserves are at home to Liskeard, kick-off 2.30pm.
