FIREPIT walking and a lantern procession are just two of the events listed in a new seasonal calendar being distributed by Tavistock BID.
The fold-out, credit card-sized publication will cover all the major happenings in the town from mid August to the end of December.
Lisa Wadling, manager of BID, said: 'The idea is that visitors who are coming here now, in the summer, will be able to plan ahead when they'd like to come back again.
'They will be available in shops and with accommodation providers, and these providers will also get them electronically, so they can be sent out through their databases, so hopefully we can monitor it for feedback.
'They will also have QR codes which will link to the Visit Tavistock website.'
BID is working on several events in the run-up to Christmas, all designed to bring people in to the town. They include a lantern procession, in which children from primary schools in the area will take part in workshops to create fantastic lanterns which will then be paraded through the town in a spectacular night-time parade.
Lisa said contact has already been made with the primary schools so the workshops can be worked in to their autumn timetables.
And another, more unusual evening event will be a firewalk on the square, where people can pay to see prominent local people walk across hot coals. This is being run by ROC (Robert Owen Communities) and proceeds will go towards their Tavistock Welcome Club, a drop-in social club for people with learning difficulties.
Lisa said it was hoped both events would bring people into town and make use of late night shopping opportunities.
Lisa said: 'We are now at the stage where we are starting to deliver on the projects which were included in the BID business plan, such as the free parking initiatives and the information packs being given to coach companies.
'We will prepare another calendar to cover the months from January to April/May, and then another for the summer months.'
