AN understrength Tavistock team found the going tough as the Lifton attack of Allen and Volz bowled with great accuracy, making life difficult for openers Dhanjal and Lee.
Dhanjal started to pick off the bad balls as his game increased in confidence. Ten overs passed before the breakthrough came for Lifton with Lee falling to Allen (4-26) and with that the inexperience of the Tavistock batting line up was laid bare.
Allen now in tandem with Parish (3-43) started to rip through the Tavistock order in quick time, with scant resistance being put up. Dhanjal was still there batting superbly but he was fast running out of partners. With only 69 on the board Dhanjal was joined by Tavistock's number 11 Johnny Lethbridge with Lifton thinking the game was over.
Lethbridge proceeded to frustrate Lifton with a solid batting display for another 11 overs allowing Dhanjal to reach a well-deserved 50. Lethbridge was eventually run out on 13 leaving Dhanjal stranded on an unbeaten 64, leaving Tavistock with a modest 106 on the board.
Lacking in the bowling department Tavistock went out to try and at least pick up some bowling points but with little prospect of defending their small total. Early cheer in the form of the wickets of Volz and Vanstone being captured by Folley, and some superb fielding by Piper and Bellamy to run out Allen, soon evaporated with the arrival of Pengelly to the crease.
Pengelly supported by Maynard (24no) slogged his way to a rapid 37 not out and with it the win for Lifton after only 15 overs.
This was a comprehensive defeat for Tavistock with the only positives being a return to form of Dhanjal and a useful keeping display for young colt Taylor Kingham in his first senior League game for Tavistock.
