YOUNG members of Okehampton Otters Swimming and Lifesaving Club were presented with their bronze medallion lifesaving award.

They were presented their certificates by volunteer instructor Tony Clark when the Otters held its annual Emily Webster Memorial gala at the town's Parklands leisure centre.

The swimmers earned their certificates after completing a four week course. Those that successfully passed in March, or are about to take the exam, are Sam Collett, Harry Edwards, Freddy Eggleton, Izzy Ewen, Nell Fallon Clark, George Roberts and Dominic Wooldridge.

Many of the lifesavers, such as Emily Alexander, go on to teach others and become pool lifeguards.

For those aged nine and above, Otters Rooky Lifeguard sessions are held every Friday at 6pm to improve swimming, teach water safety and how to help others.
