THEY wanted to be a part of it and after taking a bite out of the Big Apple, students from Okehampton College are hungry for more. During the Easter holidays, 30 sixth form students from the college jetted across the Atlantic to enjoy a three-day trip in one of the world's most famous cities — New York. They stayed in the Hotel Pennsylvania, right in the centre of Manhattan, allowing them to soak up the atmosphere of the buzzing city. The famous sights visited by the students included the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building and Central Park. Sue Hester-Greenhill, teacher at the college and organiser of the trip, felt the excursion had been a great few days. She said: 'New York is such an amazing place. I think the students have been blown away by it and seeing sights like Time Square has really given them memorable experiences.' The students became honorary New Yorkers during their stay, eating pretzels, riding on the subway and relaxing in Central Park. College student Ashley Clark said: 'It was so surreal to actually be there. You see and hear so many things about New York in films and on television but to actually stand in the middle of it was incredible. It was a trip we certainly won't forget.'
