A FORMER Bere Ferrers councillor was among those nominated for a top parliamentary award in the House of Commons.

Christine Grills, who recently retired after serving as a West Devon Borough councillor for 16 years, was presented with runner-up for the Patsy Calton Award 2011. Twice West Devon mayor, she has been a consistent supporter of the Liberal Democrat party for more than 40 years and has now received national recognition from her party.

The Patsy Calton is a Liberal Democrat award that commemorates the success of female participation in political process at all levels. Patsy Calton died in May 2005 when her party won 62 parliamentary seats, ten held by women, and these annual awards celebrate these achievements.
