Lewdown v
Uplyme and Lyme Regis
LEWDOWN and Uplyme set out to battle on a scorching hot day in West Devon. Lewdown lost the toss and had to chase later on as they were asked to field.
Uplyme got off to a flyer with their opening pair putting on a slow but valuable partnership of 51.
After they went the wickets started to tumble, with Charlie Hughes and Adie Clements taking three each as Uplyme were reduced to 175 off 45 overs.
The Lewdown openers got to 50 within 12 overs and were cruising until Kris Harris fell for a well-made 36, when the score was on 72.
Ed Squire and Harry Geering put on 69 until Ed Squire was dismissed for 41 to be shortly followed by Justin Gliddon.
Harry Geering made 50 to steer Lewdown home with Matt Witcher at the other end on 17.
Lewdown won by 7 wickets, kept their unbeaten run going, and collected another 20 points.
Kilmington A v Lewdown
LEWDOWN travelled to a windy and rain-threatening East Devon, lost the toss and were put into bat on what looked a good Kilmington wicket.
Lewdown's top order scored consistently with Kris Harris (38) and Harry Geering (39) laying the foundations for Matt Witcher to continue his good form from Tuesday, scoring 73 no with five sixes and Ant Weeks, 50 no and gaining his maiden 1st XI half century.
The pair putting on 98 for the fifth wicket and got the team total up to an impressive 250-4 in their rain reduced 44 overs.
In reply Kilmington started well reaching 65-1 off 15 overs when skipper Charlie Hughes gave himself a bowl and with his gentle medium pacers picked up three quick wickets, reducing the opposition to 82-4 with 22 gone, and seemingly ending the Kilmington run chase.
Lewdown failed in their bid to bowl the opposition out and gain the outright win, and with the occasional lusty blow Kilmington reached 200-7 at the close, Charlie Hughes finishing with 4-36.
Worryingly, the opposition top score, for the third week running, was extras with 42, an area of play which needs to be fixed before it really costs the club and ends with defeat.
All in all another good result, the 14 points gained kept Lewdown second in table (before the Uplyme and Lyme Regis game) — two points behind Hatherleigh .
