STABLEFORD competitions are a great leveller, in that the majority of members can stand on the first tee knowing they have a chance of a podium finish.
In Tavistock Golf Club?s G Kitley stableford, all nine players in the leading positions of the three divisions are regular golfers.
Results ? Division 1: M A Ingram, 35 points; R R McLintock, 34; P W Congo, 34.
Division 2: L Kittle, 40 points; H M Leach, 39; S F Dixon, 36.
Division 3: I E Gawman, 37 points; M Edmonds, 37; A R Evans, 36.
The midweek stableford was no different from any other in that it produced tight finishes in both divisions.
Division: 1 A Gawman, 36 points; S Kiely, 36; R A Potts, 35.
Division 2: A Robb, 38 points; K Rich, 37; S F Dixon, 36.
There were two medal competitions, one of which went right down to the wire, while the other was an unbelievable result. The Alfa Romeo Medal could not have been tighter as follows:-
Division 1: D S Young, (7) 73 nett; D Burge, (9) 74; L H Gawman (14) 74.
Division 2: P Mahoney, (18) 74; C Gibbon, (22) 74; B Green (21) 76.
Contrastingly in the three ball team medal, one of the earlier teams recorded an astonishing 13 under par, which must have been demoralising for all the teams who were teeing off shortly after lunch. J Gawman, C Gunn and A Gawman won by a country mile.
Tavistock Golf Club regained the Tim Reeder Trophy from Launceston with an emphatic 4 -1 victory.
