CHILDREN and parents competed in a national healthy cooking challenge at Winkleigh Primary School last Thursday.

The school's Let's Get Cooking club took part in the BIG Cookathon, a challenge to get as many people as possible cooking the same healthy recipe on the same day.

Last year, more than 50,000 people took part nationally in the cookathon, organised by national healthy cooking programme Let's Get Cooking.

The budding chefs made cheesy veggie crumble for a chance to win a share of £5,000 prize money for the school.

Let's Get Cooking club co-ordinator, Vickie Howes, said: 'It's a massive challenge to have so many people cooking all on the same day, but we're determined to help Let's Get Cooking notch up its biggest total yet and to get even more people cooking in Winkleigh.'

The event ran throughout the day at the school with each year group taking part.

Led by the School Food Trust, Let's Get Cooking provides training, resources and support to help set up healthy cooking programmes for people of all ages.

Let's Get Cooking has established England's biggest network of healthy, school-based cooking clubs for children and families with support from a £20m grant from the BIG Lottery — reaching more than 1 million people in over 5,000 clubs.
