ON December 8 your Entertainments page gave details of a programme, ?Jerry Springer The Opera?, due to be staged at Plymouth Theatre Royal in January. The nature of that show was made clear by the television presentation. I wonder what sort of sick-minded people would want to pay in order to be regaled by a constant barrage of four letter words, and to have Almighty God and the Lord Jesus Christ ridiculed and blasphemed, all under the guise of entertainment? As a committed Christian I find it offensive. The theatre would not dare to offend the Muslims by staging such a production. Why is it considered acceptable to offend Christians? I would urge decent minded people to take a stand against this. We are about to remember the occasion when the Son of God came to earth in humble circumstances to pay the price for our sins. We ought to consider the need to be putting our trust in Him for our eternal salvation, not seeing Him ridiculed, the consequences of which might turn out to be very serious.
