THERE is now a festive feel to the Wharf in Tavistock, after members of the Tavistock District of the NSPCC switched on the lights of their charity Christmas tree.

The NSPCC hosted a coffee morning and a raffle to accompany the switch-on, which was organised by Priscilla Gillett, chairman of NSPCC Tavistock, to raise money to fund NSPCC child protection services locally.

The Christmas tree was donated by Graham Hawker of Tavistock Pannier Market, and was decorated with baubles which are sponsored by local businesses and individuals.

The decorative lights were switched on by town deputy mayor Anne Johnson.

The sponsoring of baubles usually raises between £800 and £900 for the charity. Anyone who would like to sponsor a bauble can do so until Tuesday December 20 by contacting the Times on 01822 613666.
