Tavistock Pumas 1

OPMs 1

TAVISTOCK Pumas mixed hockey team opened with strong attacking play from Damian Heard, Emma Bowden and Nick Andrews who were quick to put the opposition?s goalkeeper under enormous pressure. Despite this, the Pumas could not get the ball into the goal even with Carl Jeffery and Nick Boot-Hanford making excellent tackles and constantly feeding it back into the D.

The midfield play of the Pumas was almost impossible for the opposition to break through with Sharon Jeffery, Kath Collar and John Barratt blocking out any major attack.

It was a lucky break that allowed OPMs to go into the lead. Pumas were outnumbered in defence and no matter how Steph Mills and Fiona Dunn battled, OPMs managed to find the gap and sneak it past the goalkeeper.

After a good team talk, the second half showed a more determined Pumas and all the players worked as a team.

Bowden and Sharon Jeffery had some excellent runs down the pitch and if the ball had been crossed to them more a goal was likely.

A penalty flick was awarded to Pumas and Carl Jeffery was the player to take it. With the greatest of ease he slipped it past the keeper, levelling the score at 1-1.

The game then seemed very much in Pumas favour but the OPMs goalkeeper was strong. A draw was enough to show Pumas have finished overall third in division 1 of the mixed leagues.

The Pumas have had a good season this summer and have built on mistakes and learned from them for future games.

Well done to all players from the Pumas and a big thank you to Phil Edwards and Phil Honey for their umpiring of the matches.
