FIVE legs and three legs will be better than one on Children in Need night later this month when the Okehampton 41 Club holds its fun race around the town.
This year there will be one important difference from previous races, with a three-legged race for two people being run as well as the well-established five-legged challenge.
Over the past few years, this successful event has become part of the Okehampton autumn calendar and has raised many thousands of pounds for the charity. By widening the event to teams of two as well as four, organisers hope to attract even more entries.
The race takes place on Children in Need evening on Friday, November 19.
Teams of four and two with their legs bound at the ankles race around eight of the pubs in town, pausing for a well-earned drink at each one.
Each time is sponsored by friends? families and workmates. Late entries are always welcome from any team who wish to enter for the fun of it, provided they make a £5 contribution.
As usual, there will be lots of prizes on the night for the winners in the men?s, women?s and mixed classes as well as the best dressed team and the team which has raised most sponsorship.
Okehampton 41 Club chairman Angus McPhie said: ?As Okehampton people will know the five-legged race has become the town?s major contribution to the Children in Need appeal.
?By extending it to three legged teams as well, we hope to have even more entrants.
?I am sure that once again we can look forward to an incredibly good turnout from participants and spectators alike and a really good fun evening.?
Entry forms are available at Angus McPhie?s shop in Fore Street and W J Cornish Jewellers on the other side of the road. They will be more than happy to answer any questions entrants may have. Forms should be completed and returned as soon as possible.
The start, as always, will be at Simmons Park and the finish by the West Bridge. Entrants need to check in by 7pm for a 7.30pm start.
